Electrical and Embedded Systems Design Engineer
### Description
The Electrical and Embedded Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electronic hardware and related firmware and software for applications in residential and commercial refrigeration products from inception, through testing, agency approval and into production.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
* Determine hardware, software and system requirements for embedded systems applied to refrigeration products.
* Develop, maintain and improve algorithms and firmware for embedded systems.
* Documents product designs by preparing flow charts, state machines, bills of materials, cost analysis, drawings and schematics.
* Works with PCB contract manufacturers, consultants and suppliers to ensure manufacturability of new products and identify components and tools.
* Develop and manage project schedules related to new and existing product design.
* Reviews the overall progress of each project and provides the department manager with a detailed monthly progress report. Ensures on-time project completion.
* Creates a positive work atmosphere and attitude, level of cooperation and general leadership to provide a positive influence.
* Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
* Searches for high quality, lower cost components and assemblies. Actively
* identifies and implements cost reduction ideas and programs to meet the cost reduction goals of the department.
* Prototype and performance testing.
* Prepares and makes submittals to regulatory engineers.
* Drafts new product specifications and installation instructions.
* Supplies technical support to the Service Department when needed.
* Develop Engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
* Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
* All other duties as assigned.
* Regular and reliable attendance in the office is required.
* This position requires work to be performed on-site at our corporate office and does not provide for working from home offices.
**Qualifications**
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar field required.
* Three or more years related experience in electrical and embedded system design required.
* Five or more years of related experience preferred.
* Knowledgeable of compliance and regulatory requirements and testing procedures for Domestic UL, FCC standards and export EN/IEC, EMC standards preferred.
* PCB design including schematic capture and board layout.
* Firmware development (8-, 16-, 32-bit, ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers) and debugging.
* Experience with EDC/EDM hardware design and simulation (SolidWorks PCB, Altium, Cadence).
* Demonstrated ability reading hardware schematics and using common debugging tools including scopes, logic analyzers, emulators, and signal generators.
* Experience in programming real-time systems with or without RTOS.
* Enjoy being hands on in the lab and want to be in the details (soldering, oscilloscopes).
* Familiar with NI data acquisition equipment as well as LabView.
* Knowledge of IoT and wireless technology.
* Knowledge of new sensor technology.
* Solid working knowledge of C/C++ preferred.
* Knowledge or experience with thermoelectric devices a plus.
* Ability to organize work to meet the departmental goals and objectives.
* Highly developed interpersonal skills.
The hours for this position are 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
